ailene-macdougall-confluence-mixed-media-on-canvas
Ailene MacDougall - Confluence - Mixed Media on Canvas

Ailene Vrana MacDougall is a Canadian mixed-media abstract artist based in Innisfil, Ontario. Toronto-born, she has followed a creative path for more than 30 years, exploring painting, textile and fibre art, jewellery, and other creative disciplines before becoming a full-time professional artist in 2023.
Before pursuing art full time, Ailene built careers in corporate strategy and entrepreneurship. That background continues to influence her work through a natural curiosity about patterns, connections, and what lies beneath the surface. A lifelong fascination with architecture—particularly doors, archways, pathways, and the spaces beyond them—has become an important thread throughout her practice.
Working with acrylic paint, collage, graphite, oil pastel, texture, and mark-making, Ailene creates vibrant, layered abstract works inspired by architecture, travel, memory, and place. Rather than depicting a destination literally, she explores how it feels: the colours, energy, patterns, and fragments of memory that remain long after a journey ends.
Her current WorldScapes™ series brings these ideas together, drawing inspiration from places she has experienced in Canada and around the world. Layers are added, obscured, revealed, and reworked, allowing earlier marks to become part of the story.
At the heart of Ailene's work is curiosity—the desire to explore, experiment, and continually ask, "What's next?" Through colour, texture, and joyful discovery, she creates work that invites viewers to connect with their own memories, experiences, and sense of possibility

Find Ailene MacDougall on Instagram Here

Mixed Media on Canvas

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0576/7587/4483/files/ailene-macdougall-confluence-mixed-media-on-canvas.jpg?v=1791232183
