Peter Gamble - Kayak Three - watercolour & ink on archival cotton paper panel

Peter is a visual artist based in Shad Bay, Nova Scotia since 2002. Originally from Toronto, he’s an alumnus of Queen’s University Life Sciences and Dalhousie University Architecture. Peter has been designing and building things, big and small, for decades and continues to draw great inspiration from the natural and built environment. He uses drawing, painting and sculpture as a communication tool for his architectural work as well as an outlet for personal exploration and expression. He is an accomplished woodworker, plein-air painter and a juried member of Craft Nova Scotia. For me, everything starts with a sketch. There’s always a story to tell but you never quite know how it’s going to end, and everyone has a unique voice. Urban sketching and plein air painting allow me to explore new places and document them in a way that photography cannot. It's a snapshot of place and time and mood, processed by a human in situ. I love the immediacy of graphite and ink, and I love the handiness of watercolours. All those tiny pigment particles have history and chemistry. They make music for the eyes..
