Jenny Kastner - Electric Feel - Acrylic on Canvas

Jenny Kastner is a Canadian artist, educator and creator, whose work explores the emotional and symbolic language of landscape. Based between Stoney Lake, Canada, and Dominical, Costa Rica, she paints places where wilderness and memory converge, inspired deeply by the unique meeting place of the Canadian Shield and the limestone lowlands known as The Land Between. Her paintings move beyond representation, transforming familiar landscapes into vibrant, dreamlike environments that evoke presence, belonging and wonder.
Drawing inspiration from the freedom and rhythm of surf culture, the bold visual storytelling of global folk art traditions, and Jungian ideas of landscape as a mirror of the subconscious, Kastner has developed a distinctive visual language that pushes the Canadian landscape tradition into magical realism. Her work exists somewhere between observations rooted in the natural world and her connection with the mythical, inviting viewers into spaces where memory, emotion, and imagination converge.
With a background in arts education and more than a decade of professional artistic practice, Kastner approaches painting as an act of connection. She is interested in how landscapes shape personal and collective identity, memory, and wellbeing, reflecting her deep respect for the ways art can cultivate a deeper relationship to the natural world. Kastner believes landscapes act as portals, drawing the viewer into an embodied experience of perception, while evoking the powerful dialogue between the natural world and the subconscious. Through her paintings, she invites viewers to pause and reconnect, encouraging us to reconsider our relationship to place and our belonging within nature.
Kastner's work has been featured in international publications including Dwell, My Modern Met, Boooooooom, and Cottage Life, and is held in private collections across Canada, the US, France, the UK, Costa Rica, Barbados, South Africa and Australia. Alongside her studio practice, she is the creator of DRAW, a card deck designed to inspire creative confidence in children through open-ended drawing, reflecting her enduring belief in the transformative power of creativity
