I was born in Vancouver, BC, Canada but spent my entire childhood and adolescence in a rural town about an hour east of the city. Creativity and self-expression have always been an important part of my life. Countless hours spent in the wooded acreage I was raised on helped inform my love of nature, animals and seeing beauty in the simple things. My formal training as an artist includes Capilano University’s IDEA program, where I studied graphic design, commercial illustration and fine art, graduating in 2007. After four years of working as a graphic designer, I made painting my full time passion in 2011. Between 2006 and 2010, I expanded my knowledge of acrylic painting in workshops with several artists through the Federation of Canadian Artists. Mike Svob, Amanda Jones and Robert Genn number among my influences. My work has also been informed by art history movements such as the Fauvists and Colourists of the 20th century. Contemporary illustration and modern collage also inspire my painting. My use of bright colours, bold brushwork with strong patterns and textures have become statements of my love of nature, animals and the human experience..
